{"id":1401,"date":"2025-08-20T18:22:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T18:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/finzexpert.com\/blog\/mortgage-applications-inconsequentially-lower-vs-last-week\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T18:22:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T18:22:18","slug":"mortgage-applications-inconsequentially-lower-vs-last-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/finzexpert.com\/blog\/mortgage-applications-inconsequentially-lower-vs-last-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Mortgage Applications Inconsequentially Lower vs Last Week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p>Mortgage application activity eased last week, but not in a statistically significant way.\u00a0 One might be inclined to note a very slight uptick in mortgage rates, but it&#8217;s just as fair to say that rates held steady near longer-term lows.\u00a0 The Mortgage Bankers Association\u2019s weekly survey showed a 1.4% decline in the seasonally adjusted Composite Index for the week ending August 15, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMortgage rates increased slightly last week, with the 30-year fixed rate now at 6.68 percent,\u201d said Joel Kan, MBA\u2019s Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist. VA applications fell 16%, while FHA refinance applications increased as FHA rates remained comparatively competitive.<\/p>\n<p>The Refinance Index decreased 3% week-over-week but remains about 23% higher than the same week a year ago.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The Purchase Index was essentially flat (+0.1% seasonally adjusted) and is running about 23% ahead of last year\u2019s level.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a.mortgagenewsdaily.com\/assets\/68a5fad0cd7728870b368868\/68a5fad0cd7728870b368868.png\" width=\"487\" height=\"362\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The refinance share of total mortgage applications slipped to 46.1%. ARM share decreased to 8.6%.
