{"id":585,"date":"2025-01-18T20:40:12","date_gmt":"2025-01-18T20:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/finzexpert.com\/blog\/housing-construction-bounced-back-in-december-thanks-to-multifamily-sector\/"},"modified":"2025-01-18T20:40:12","modified_gmt":"2025-01-18T20:40:12","slug":"housing-construction-bounced-back-in-december-thanks-to-multifamily-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/finzexpert.com\/blog\/housing-construction-bounced-back-in-december-thanks-to-multifamily-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"Housing Construction Bounced Back in December Thanks to Multifamily Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p>The US Census Bureau released its New Residential Construction report for December today.\u00a0 The report measures building permits, the start of the construction process (housing starts), and housing completions.<\/p>\n<p>While construction has definitely been running well below the highs seen 3 years ago, it continues to operate just above pre-pandemic levels.\u00a0 That&#8217;s something that can&#8217;t be said for many other housing and mortgage market metrics.<\/p>\n<p>Last month&#8217;s data showed housing starts closer to the low end of 2024&#8217;s range.\u00a0 Today&#8217;s report shows a bounce back to the highest levels since February.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The multifamily sector played the biggest role in the rebound&#8211;especially in the South which accounted for 128k additional units.\u00a0 Nationally, multifamily housing starts increased by 155k units to a 12 month high of 418k and single family starts rose 34k to a total of 1.05 million.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a.mortgagenewsdaily.com\/assets\/678abcf00d01b5c0372d7daf\/678abcf00d01b5c0372d7daf.png\" width=\"525\" height=\"428\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Census Bureau released its New Residential Construction report for December today.\u00a0 The report measures building permits, the start of the construction process (housing starts), and housing completions.
